Terms of use
By using Stayed Worked Went you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app. These terms are an agreement between you and Refine By Ltd, the company that runs Stayed Worked Went (“we”).
Who can use it
You must be 18 or older. You can browse without an account; posting, saving and following need one.
Your account
Keep your sign-in secure and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for what is posted from it. One person, one account.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to store it, make copies in the sizes the app needs, and show it to the people you chose (only you, or everyone) for as long as it’s in the app. Only post photos, clips and words you have the right to share, and get permission before posting people who can be recognised.
Music and other people’s work
Don’t add music or other content you don’t have the rights to, for example a song added in an editing app. Sound recorded where you were (the waves, a street, a café) is fine. You can remove the sound from any clip before you post it.
If you think something in the app uses your work without permission, email copyright@stayedworkedwent.com with: what the work is and that you own it or act for the owner; a link to the post, or the traveller’s handle and the place; your name and how to reach you; and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t allowed and that what you’ve told us is accurate. We act quickly: we may hide the post while we check, remove its sound or remove it, and we tell the traveller. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly post other people’s work.
Be honest and be kind
- Share places you actually stayed at, worked from or went to, and bookings that are really yours.
- No illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, violent or sexually explicit content, and no spam or advertising.
- Respect other people’s privacy. Don’t post anyone’s private details, including the address of a private home.
- Don’t try to game levels, points or earnings, for example with fake bookings, other people’s photos or multiple accounts.
- Don’t interfere with the service or try to get at data that isn’t yours.
How Public posts work
Each post and trip is either Private, which only you can see, or Public, which anyone can see. Your profile is always public. Anyone with a confirmed email can post Public, unless strikes have paused it. So that what people see stays honest and safe:
- Checks come first. Automatic checks run before a Public post shows to anyone else. At busy times, for example during a wave of spam, a person on our team may look at new Public posts before they show.
- Unverified posts stay on your profile. A Public post whose visit hasn’t been verified appears only on your profile, not in the feed, on the map or on the place’s page.
- Verified posts reach the feed after a short wait. Once its visit is verified, a post joins the feed, the map and the place’s page after a short wait that depends on your level. Newer accounts wait longer. A stay only goes Public after its checkout date, so a post doesn’t show where you’re staying right now.
- Daily limits. There is a limit on how many Public posts you can make in a day, lower for new accounts. The app tells you if you reach it.
- No contact details. Links, web addresses, email addresses and phone numbers aren’t allowed in Public posts and trips, or in your profile’s bio and location.
- Reports can hide a post while we look. After reports, a post can be taken out of the feed, or for serious reasons hidden everywhere, automatically while a person on our team looks at it. If it doesn’t break these terms, it goes back where it was.
- A person makes the big decisions. A person on our team gives every strike (strikes can pause or close an account) and decides every removal and suspension. Automatic checks never do.
When we hide or remove something you posted, or restrict your account, we tell you what we did, why, whether it happened automatically, and how to complain (see How we keep people safe).
Reports and blocking
You can report any post or profile, and block anyone so you no longer see their posts or profile (blocking also ends any follows between you). We review reports and aim to act within 24 hours. A reported post may be hidden automatically while we do (see How Public posts work). We may remove content, take away points or earnings gained by breaking these rules, and suspend or close accounts that break them.
How we keep people safe
What isn’t allowed. Anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material or anything that sexualises children, terrorist content, threats, harassment and stalking, stirring up hatred against people because of their race, religion or sexual orientation, sharing intimate images of someone without their consent, scams and fraud, selling drugs or weapons, and encouraging anyone to take their own life or seriously harm themselves. The rest of these terms, such as “Be honest and be kind”, also apply.
How we find it. Through reports from people using the app (every post and profile has Report), automatic checks on what people write (words that aren’t allowed, and contact details in anything Public), and our own review. Our team reads every report, and we aim to act within 24 hours. Anyone can post Public, but a post reaches the feed, the map and place pages only after its author’s visit has been checked, and there are no direct messages or comments.
What we do. We remove illegal content as soon as we know about it, and may give a strike, suspend or close the account. Where the law requires it, or someone may be at risk, we report it to the police, the National Crime Agency or the Internet Watch Foundation, and we keep a private copy of what we removed for a limited time (see the privacy policy). If you think someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or your local emergency number first.
Complaints and appeals. You can complain about a post or profile, about how we handled a report, or about a decision we made about you (a removed post, a strike, a suspension), and you can tell us if you think we aren’t meeting our duties under the UK Online Safety Act. Reply to the email we sent you about a decision, or email hello@stayedworkedwent.com with “Complaint” in the subject; you don’t need an account. We reply within a week, and if we got it wrong we put it right (for example, restore a post or remove a strike).
Who is responsible. Luke Wheatle, director of Refine By Ltd, is responsible for how we meet our online safety duties.
Levels, points and rewards
The levels are Guest, Traveller, Explorer and Ambassador. Your level decides how soon your verified posts reach the feed, how many Public posts you can make in a day and, at Explorer and Ambassador, whether you can earn a share of commission. Levels, points, badges and verification are described in the app, and the rules for them may change. They have no cash value and can’t be transferred or sold.
Booking links and earnings
We may earn a commission when you book. Book buttons take you to third-party booking sites such as Booking.com, which have their own terms. Your booking is with them, not us, and we aren’t responsible for their sites, prices or stays. At the Explorer and Ambassador levels, travellers can earn a share of the commission from bookings made through their verified posts. The app shows what you’ve earned and how sharing works. Payouts aren’t available yet, and earnings may be withheld if they come from breaking these rules or if the booking site cancels the commission. A post whose author earns from it says so under its Book button. How reviews are checked and labelled is in our reviews policy.
Places and maps
Place and map data come from open sources (Overture Maps Foundation, including Foursquare open data, OpenFreeMap, OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap contributors; see the privacy policy for the full credits) and from people using the app. We work to keep it accurate, but places change, so check the details before you travel.
The service
We work hard to keep the app running and accurate, but it’s provided as it is: we can’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every place detail or post is correct. Posts are other travellers’ opinions, not ours. We may change or stop features. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law as a consumer.
Leaving
You can delete your account in the app under Settings at any time. See the privacy policy for what happens to your data. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law or safety stops us.
Changes and contact
If these terms change, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app for significant changes. Questions: hello@stayedworkedwent.com.
